“There are many different hazards when driving in winter from the change in weather to vehicle maintenance. Here are some helpful tips from one of our trainers…
What are the additional hazards?
- Weather – ice, snow, rain, wind, fog, low sun, floods.
- Less daylight – travelling in the dark, defective lighting on other vehicles, poor or no lighting on bicycles, pedestrians in dark clothing (adults and school children).
- Vehicle electrics under much higher load demands and batteries less efficient to cope with this demand in cold weather.
- Stopping distances increasing anywhere between 2 and ten times further than they would be in perfect dry conditions.”
